This scenario is referee agnostic. Since there are no NPCs, the job of the referee is primarily as rules facilitator. All the player characters would be familiar with the layout of Base Echo, so the referee need not hide its contents. If you wish to play without a referee, you can do so; one player can be elected to be a designated adjudicator of the rules, or you can pass the role around the table if everyone is comfortable. Remember that everyone is here to participate in the experience genuinely and in good faith. 

the where: Antarctica, classified American paramilitary research Base Echo, 1982.

the what: ~12 hours ago, a dog was chased through the snow by Norwegian researchers toward Base Echo. The pursuing Norwegians were shot by the Base Echo crew in self defense. The dog was taken in by the crew. Within hours, the dog revealed itself as a shapeshifting alien monster. At least one of the crew has been possibly assimilated by the Doppelganger.
